Salt is salt…right? NOPE! Good salt tastes like the sea. If you haven’t tasted true salt before, I suggest starting with Jacobsen Salt.

Jacobsen Salt started due to the lack of local salt in Oregon. Before Jacobsen was born, consumers were purchasing salt from outside sources. Ben Jacobson decided to start and grow a local company built around quality. To this day, every flake of salt is inspected with human eyes and packaged by hand. Their attention to detail has gained them praise by numerous magazines such as Vice, Vogue, and Food & Wine, to name a few.

Their salt is harvested in Nectarts Bay on the Oregon Coast, which also includes some of the world’s best oysters. These neighboring oysters filter the water, creating a perfect environment for harboring pristine salt production. The large chunks of salt are amazing, and mouth watering. The awesome taste has gained Jacobsen support from cooks and chefs all around the world. They have recently expanded their inventory to include other Oregon born treats such as Oregon Albacore Tuna, Bee Local Honey varieties (which are bottled by region), and spices.

“Definition of good salt was defined by taste, clean and briny taste; texture, really light and flaky; color and appearance, really beautiful white shiny flakes.”

Pictures of Nectarts Bay, salt crystals of all sizes, and their hand-made production process are featured on the website. Their blog features stories that inspire people to cook, eat, and live well. The ecommerce section of the site has an abundance of white space that allows the products to shine, just like the packaging. Each product is presented in a minimal style. Transparent glass jars, bottles, and see-through boxes promote their pure products. Their labels are clean and simple, using blue and white to translate the sea. The style reminds consumers of traditional, old school products.
