2 Weeks until first pitch at Hadlock Field

Greatest moment #12, Big Papi at Hadlock Field!

It is hard to imagine that ten years ago, David Ortiz suited up for the Portland Sea Dogs at Hadlock Field. Big Papi played in three games on a Major League Rehab Assignment — July 21–23, 2008.

Ortiz went 2-for-8 with two walks, as the Designated Hitter for all three games. What stands out in my mind was the crowd reaction to Big Papi. A simple walk would ignite the crowd. He got a standing ovation when he advanced to second base on a walk.

In the ultimate irony, Portland played the Connecticut Defenders, and their catcher was Pablo Sandoval. That’s right! Sandoval was a catcher in the minors.
