5 Weeks until first pitch at Hadlock Field

Greatest moment #9, Jay Johnson saves the day on April 16, 2008

The night of April 16th, 2008 will go down as one of the most memorable games in team history. When you talk to fans about that memorable April night, we all call it the “Jay Johnson” game.

The Portland Sea Dogs beat the Connecticut Defenders, 8–7 in 17 innings, which took 5 hours and 41 minutes to complete, making it the longest game in franchise history.

Johnson was instrumental in completing the win. He delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the 17th inning, but also pitched two scoreless innings to earn the win. It’s believed that Johnson is the first position player in Minor League Baseball history to deliver the game-winning hit and be the winning pitcher.
