Day 4 from Ft. Myers

Spent the day across town/Sea Dogs announce pride night

The Great Kirby Puckett is still honored at the Twins Minor League Complex

On Thursday, the Sea Dogs and Pawtucket Red Sox stayed in Ft. Myers, taking on the Twins affiliates at CenturyLink Sports Complex. For those new to Spring Training, both the Red Sox and Minnesota Twins are in the Fort.

Portland’s lineup for the game (ended in a tie): CF Curcio, 2B Netzer, SS Chatham, LF Washington, 1B Castellanos, 3B Tobias, C Rei, RF Rusconi, DH Sciortino, DH V. Acosta, SP Reyes…You notice two DH, that happens in these exhibition games. Also to point out, this lineup does not reflect what we’ll see on April 4th at Hadlock Field. There will be many changes in the coming weeks.

Interesting tidbits from the Triple-A game: Old friend Mike Olt is in Twins camp and could be destined for Rochester. Olt is a terrific guy and a great mentor to the younger players. He was great to have around. Many former Sea Dogs were playing in the Triple-A game: Brentz, De La Guerra, Mars, Matheny, Miller (hit a long homer), Ockimey, Rivera, Romanski, Stankiewicz, Sturgeon, Taylor, Tendler, and many more.

Keith Curcio is an interesting story. He was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the sixth round of the 2014 draft out of Florida Southern (Lakeland, Florida). I’ve heard some good reports from people watching him during the spring. One source told me he’s a terrific athlete with a lot of speed. Curcio hit a long two-run homer during the game. After being released by the Braves, he played for Kansas City in the Independent League last year, hitting .306 in 94 games. He could be a guy we see in Portland.
