Familiar names added to the 40-man roster

Former Sea Dogs Chatham, Dalbec, Hart, and Wilson added

Major League Baseball has a deadline of 8 PM on November 20th for teams to make additions to the 40-man roster. This year, the Boston Red Sox added five players: LHP Yoan Aybar added from High-A Salem, INF C.J. Chatham and Bobby Dalbec, and LHP Kyle Hart were added from Triple-A Pawtucket. OF Marcus Wilson was from the Sea Dogs.

Chatham made his Double-A debut with Portland in 2019 and did not disappoint. The Florida native led the Eastern League with a .297 average (104-for-350), 3 HR, 36 RBI, and 26 doubles in 90 games. Chatham earned a promotion to Triple-A Pawtucket on August 13th, hitting .302 with the PawSox.

Chatham was drafted by the Red Sox in the 2nd round of the 2016 Draft

Dalbec led all of Red Sox Minor Leaguers in homers (27) and total bases (217). In 2019, Dalbec played in 105 games with the Sea Dogs, hitting 20 homers with 57 RBI. He earned a promotion to Pawtucket on August 3rd and hit .257, 7 HR, 16 RBI in 30 games.

Dalbec 26 homers in his Double-A career (134 games from 2018–19)

Hart picked up 12 wins with a combined 3.52 ERA in 2019 with the Sea Dogs and Triple-A Pawtucket. The lefty led all Red Sox minor leaguers in wins, complete games (2) and innings pitched (156.0). For his Double-A career, Hart 10–15 in 33 starts.

Earned 31 wins during his collegiate career, the 2nd-most in Indiana University history

Wilson was acquired by the Boston Red Sox from Arizona for Blake Swihart (former Sea Dogs) on 4/19/19. The 2019 season was an interesting one for Wilson, as he started in Double-A with Jackson, joined Portland, was demoted to High-A Salem, but finished his season on a good note with the Sea Dogs. Between three stops, Wilson hit .269, 18 HR, 58 RBI in 119 games.

Wilson was the 69th overall pick out in 2014 out of Junipero Serra High School in San Mateo, California.

Few roster rule changes in 2020

The changes coming in 2020: Teams will be able to use a 26-man roster, rather than a 25-man roster, until September; pitchers will be mandated to face at least three hitters or to end a half-inning; a stint on the injured list will revert to a 15-day stay for pitchers, rather than the 10-day stay implemented in 2016.

After September 1st, all teams will be allowed to carry 28 players, rather than the 40-man glut of recent years. As part of the ongoing discussions, the teams and the players will negotiate to determine the number of pitchers allowed on each roster. The number has not yet been set.
