Marquez Smith was signed by the Red Sox today from the Camden Riversharks (Atlantic League)…Smith hit .278 with Triple-A Iowa (Cubs affiliate) last season.

and assigned to Portland…Smith was originally an 8th round pick by the Chicago Cubs in the 2007 draft out of Clemson University, and began the season with Pirates de Campeche of the Mexican League (May 1–13), hitting .261 (12-for-46) with a homer and 6 RBI in 12 games…With the Camden Riversharks, Smith hit .363 (33-for-91) with 3 homers and 20 RBI.
