Procrastination! A Joyful & Mind-Bending Bit Of Fun, Gleefully Doing Other Stuff!
Or DJ Barbie’s Exuberant Ideas For A Happy Life!

As Creative Director and an online DJ for RADIOSPARX (a global company with over 18,000 in-store music clients in over 100 countries), my favorite activity is CREATING NEW PLAYLISTS!!
However, I often have so many ideas and things that I need to do, that I slip away to take a walk, clear my brain, and then return to my home office, hoping to get motivated. But more often than not, the housework calls. When it does, which is very regularly, I take comfort from this lovely little cartoon, which sums it all up so brilliantly:-
Thought about cleaning the house. But then I thought, “What’s the house done for me lately?”
So, instead of getting to work or doing any housework, I sit down at my desk and watch some freaky or funny one-minute SHORT FILMS on YouTube — like the one below — which very amusingly shows us that the stuff that irritates us the most can sometimes be the exact thing we miss dearly in our lives. Who CAN’T RELATE to this — it’s hilarious!
Then I call and chat with a few of my bestest pals, and send some emails to other besties, with some music links to brighten their day! Then I wander out into the kitchen and turn on CNN or MSNBC to be sure World War 3 hasn’t started somewhere around the globe.
I then toss together some breakfast and spend time surfing on my smartphone for celebrity news in the New York Post, New York Times, and Daily Mail (UK/US) versions.
And, of course, I check my personal Facebook page and our brilliant META PR pro, Meryana Tamera’s socials on Facebook, Instagram and the newly renamed social platform X.
Then, I scratch my head and start thinking about the dozens of things I MUST get done today!
Suddenly a thought comes into my head; I remember this fun, inspiring track from our RADIOSPARX playlist called “ROADHOUSE”, entitled “WAITING ON SUMMER,” by our witty, humorous UK composer IVAN ANCHANT.

More recently this COMEDY SHORT FILM by Kelly Merrell Films convinced me that I needed to Uber over to our hardware store on 14th Street (Washington DC), and buy some sturdy metal chains to tie myself to my chair so I can focus. Instead I decided to rewatch Kelly Merrell’s “TO DO” video again and have a good ol’ laugh.
What IS procrastination, and why do so many human beings SUFFER from it? Here’s what Psychology Today says about it — and well, maybe we are ALL a bit guilty in one way or another — or more so at certain times in our lives.
“Everyone puts things off sometimes, but procrastinators chronically avoid difficult tasks and may deliberately look for distractions. Procrastination tends to reflect a person’s struggles with self-control. For habitual procrastinators, who represent approximately 20 percent of the population, “I don’t feel like it” comes to take [sic] precedence over their goals or responsibilities and can set them on a downward spiral of negative emotions that further deter future effort.”

And in an Opinion piece by Oliver Burkeman in the New York Times on June 29th, he acknowledged we all have just a finite amount of time available to us and the multitasking should STOP, so we can enjoy life in the moment.
