Creating a “catio” (an outdoor enclosure for your cat), can be an expensive endeavor, not to mention one that requires some decent planning and carpentry skills. However, this catio can be made at a very reasonable price — the structure is made from four pre-fab chicken coops that range from only $80–200 each. Have a look:

You’ll need to assess your entrance to the catio (ours was through a window, but you may need a contractor’s help installing a cat flap through a wall or door. Otherwise, here is a list of all the components that went into the making of the catio:

Basic components

Catio parts

Optional components

Color

Entrance

Roof garden

Décor and planting

Don’t forget cozy bedding and a litterbox and if your outdoor area has fleas, be sure to see my gardening tips on plants that repel fleas.
