Hungry March Band, the genre-defying brass band and spectacle troupe from New York City — voted “Most Entertaining” at Bath Heritage Days’ July 4th Parade — comes to Portland Thursday, July 25, 2019, for a free performance in Congress Square Park. Coined “NYC’s finest guerrilla ambulatory music ensemble,” by Time Out New York, the group’s music and performance experience captures the essence of contemporary city life: anything can and will happen at a Hungry March Band show! Expect audience interaction, dancer shenanigans, and musician antics set to the soundtrack of powerfully played original tunes, drawn from traditions of global brass, jazz, punk, rock, ska and everything in between. The fun lasts from 6 to 8 pm and is family-friendly.
Hungry March Band has presented its high-octane, thrill-a-minute mayhem to ecstatic audiences around the world since its debut at the Coney Island Mermaid Parade in 1997. The July 25 performance marks Hungry March Band’s second visit to Maine in 2019. The band appeared at Bath’s Independence Day Parade, after entertaining folks at Spindleworks Arts Center in Brunswick. This summer tour is in support of their most recent album, Running Through With the Sadness, released by Imaginator Records, an independent record label based locally in Portland.
Hungry March Band is the ultimate in underground, post-punk marching bands with a penchant for expansive improvisation.
