At the beginning of last year I was arguing with a friend about creating interfaces and tools for this practice and he ended up showing me a trailer for a new Adobe tool, different Photoshop and Illustrator, something dedicated to Designers os Interface.

I was amazed at the wonders this tool promised to have, and the possibilities for creation that I would have, because besides being conducive to digital interfaces, it came with features that set it apart from other tools already known, such as Sketch. We are talking about Adobe Experience Design (XD).

One step back

Designers precisam projetar e validar a ideia.

Designers need to design and validate the idea, that's a fact. We validate with product owners and users. I’ve already seen designers having to manage their work by creating interfaces in Illustrator, or photoshop, exporting JPGS, importing in Invision to prototype, and then being able to make a professional presentation for their client. Nothing against if someone likes work that, but they are very old practices.

Focusing precisely on these processes, Adobe XD was built to improve the life of the designer because it combines features that can help us and make our work faster, easier and functional. Talking about features, follow some of what I consider to be cool.

Repeat Grid

Duplicating elements in the creation process is something really common, but sometimes it can be cumbersome and annoying.
The repeat grid tool was rightly thought for those who like to reuse what is already ready.
You simply select the element you want to duplicate symmetrically, click the repeat grid button, and start expanding your repeat area.

Prototyping

Prototyping for me is one of the main tools of Adobe XD, since with it you no longer need to leave the creative program to prototype, you do everything there in the same place, save it in the cloud and share with customers and involved.

Pen tool e pathfinder

The pen tool is a big name for designers, and it is also present in XD. Drawing with the pen tool always simplifies the process and combining with the pathfinder, everything becomes very interesting. Making that icon scratch or vectoring something you need will not be a problem.

Windows

Yes! The Windows version is already available, although it is in a leaner version than in Mac, it's already possible to work with the main tools for creating and protyping an interface.

I’m lean too.

In order not to extend this post so much, it follows a list of main features that the tool already has (besides the ones already said up there) and then a list of what is to come:

Já possui:

  • Layers;
  • Library;
  • Alignment;
  • Transparency;
  • Gradient (gradient);
  • Export of assets;
  • Preset frames and screen sizes;
  • Drag and Drop;
  • Accepts SVG;
  • Rounded strokes and edges;

It’s coming:

  • Co-creation between multiple designers in the same file;
  • Shared libraries;
  • Specification of assets for developers;
  • Version control (something like git is for developers);

If you are curious to know everything about this tool in practice and start using it, I have already made available a course about it. We approach step by step how it works and explore together this whole universe of creation.

Thank you!
