Experimental support is now available in Top Gear

You can now test out adding a single socket to combinations in Top Gear using the “Wrathion Socket” option.

Evaluating a socket addition can be very confusing! Please read about how to read the reports and the limitations of this feature.

This is primarily useful if your current set is fully socketed and you want to figure out if some alternate piece might be better if it had a socket added. If your current top gear has unsocketed items, just throw a socket on one of those and that will be optimal.

Understanding Wrathion Socket Reports

Top Gear automatically skips combinations that result in identical DPS. In the case of sockets, this means that many combinations where the only difference is which piece has the socket will be skipped. So while there could be 5 different items that could get a socket, Top Gear will only show 1 of those combinations.

As an example, my current gearset has 5 pieces that do not have a socket. If I run a sim where a socket is added, there are only two results when you might be expecting 6 (the equipped set and each item with a socket):

In this case, it doesn’t matter which item gets the socket — a different item with the socket would result in the same DPS. So Top Gear skips the gearsets that would be identical and just shows 1 result.

If you want to put the socket on a different item in the same gearset, do it! It’s the same DPS.

Limitations

  • Only one socket is added.
  • You can only select one gem to test in that socket.
  • Only combinations that can add a socket or already have full sockets are included.
  • The item that will show the socket/gem is arbitrary. The important thing is figuring out which combination is the best with a single added socket — from there you can add the socket to whichever item in that combination you prefer.
  • There are some items that cannot be socketed in-game that may be chosen in Top Gear (2020–05–11 update: Eternal Palace items will not be socketed).

Item selection will be updated to show which items will be socketed:

Reports will show socket/gem changes in the similar way that other gem changes are shown:
