Should Schools Have the Right to Expose LGBTQ+ Students?
A human rights problem.
A few days ago, I came across an article that pushed for the “school’s right” to expose transgender students to their parents. I’m not typically someone who writes in response to other works, but this is a difficult topic that must be talked about.
There were a handful of articles that came up in my research spanning across different platforms describing transgender youths as confused, deceitful, and too young to have a grasp on their own lives. Not to mention that a common trend in all these pieces is the continued use of incorrect pronouns and hateful speech, which reeks heavily of disrespect and homophobia. Of course, I’m here to write my own article, not analyze others.
Before we get started, though, let me say one thing:
What’s inside a minor’s pants should not bother you. If you are hung up on how someone identifies, especially a minor, you need to find some new hobbies.
This topic isn’t about the school’s rights or even the parent’s rights to information. It’s about safety, comfort, and basic human rights.
