What’s it like to take meds for ADHD?

I was on Ritalin for 8 years as a kid for #ADHD. Through high school and college I did just fine on my own with no meds, but as a young adult I began experiencing difficulties. I was re-diagnosed with #ADHD and began the process of trying different meds to see what would work for me. This is an excerpt from my book Raised on Ritalin: A Personal Story of ADHD, Medication, and Modern Psychiatry.

Medication can definitely be helpful for the right people and under the right circumstances. It turns out I’ve had a better experience without meds as an adult. I’ve been off them for seven years and done pretty well.
