As a parent of three girls, I know firsthand the challenges of rearing a child. As a product of two cultures, I also know if the significant differences in approaches to parenting. As a professional in the mental health field specializing in adolescent psychiatry, I understand the challenges that many parents face. Most of us are not trained as I am. When our children arrived, we did not get an owner’s manual to help us. Typically, we mirrored our own parents and blundered along as best we could. And we, humans, have been doing this for millennia.
