Play a Game and Learn Code
A coworker recently asked me about tools (books, sites, etc.) that a middle schooler might use to learn things. I don’t typically work with this age group enough to have much to say, but I did recommend CodeCombat.com, which lets you learn coding in a game environment.
There are multiple levels, challenges, and things to learn that build upon each stage. The brief bit that I’ve played was quite enjoyable. I need to play more, but I want to play more games in general.
If you happen to know an older kid who wants to learn coding and can do so without the gaming environment, I recommend TryFSharp.org. Coding in F Sharp is growing in demand. CodeAcademy.com is also quite good and has a variety of languages but not F Sharp.
