Innovative Use Digest #10: Rally Discord Bot Power User Guide

--

This week, I’m diving into how to maximize use of the Rally Discord Bot. Roles for coin holders have been going great, but did you know you can create subscription roles and roles by lifetime amount spent? With NFTs just around the corner, there’s a lot of ways to unlock more value through a variety of roles and channels in your Discord managed by the Rally Discord Bot. (Digest #9 is here with a recap of our awesome Developer Demo Day.)

With currently over 60 creators using the Rally Discord Bot, using Creator Coin with Discord is maybe the best marriage since pizza and pineapple (the real ones know). I previously wrote a blog post on how various Creators are using coin_bot in their Discord servers. This time I want to dive deeper into some of the so far untapped possibilities of using coin_bot. Let’s look at this like climbing the levels of a ziggurat on the path to ascension into the Metaverse.

Discord Server Basics

If you’re new to Discord, we’ve started this guide on the Rally Wiki with information on how to set up a Discord for the first time.

Use Your Dashboard to Make Decisions on Roles

Check out the Dashboard view on your coin page. Here you’ll be able to see your top coin holders and spenders; use this data to determine how to design the proper amounts for your various roles. For example: How many people would 1000 coins held allow into a role? How many people have sent you more than $500 USD?

Level 1/Base: Open your “lobby” with a low coin amount holding role

The first role for holding your coin should allow for as many people as possible to join. Think of this as the lobby of your coin’s headquarters. You’re going to add more floors and rooms to the HQ over time that fans can explore through deeper engagement (ie, holding and spending) with your coin.

In the lobby, you’re creating a big space for all of your coin holders to connect and a place for you to drop major announcements. The value of people finding likeminded people is a huge benefit here.

Set up your first holding role with a low amount, such as 1 coin. When combining this with a gift coin distribution strategy that matches this amount, it will make adoption of your coin much easier. (Pro Tip: If you make the base holding role 1 coin and give away 3–5 coins to key fans, those fans can send coins to a few others to do some of your acquisition for you.)

  • Channel to create: Coin Lobby
  • Role to create and assign to this channel: Coin 1
  • Command to gate access:
    !coin balanceGate — role “Coin 1” — amount 1

Level 2: Bigger HODL, bigger benefits

Let’s add some stairs to the next level. (Stairs because every day is leg day.) Some of your biggest supporters probably bought a large amount of coins. In addition to helping to hold value in your coin economy and potentially reap some benefits from the Weekly Rewards Program, you can offer enticing benefits and activities in Discord.

Consider a Great Hall. Here, you can entertain a significant number of people, but not so many that you can’t comfortably make rounds and say hello to everyone. (You’ll want to be a bit more interactive here.) Post some polls, offer access to select content, maybe drop a few hints about upcoming stuff, and then provide early access to that upcoming stuff. Entry to the Great Hall requires holding 100 coins.

Beyond the Great Hall is the Council Room. The Council Room is an even more intimate space where big decisions are made and bigger information is shared. You present ideas and have ideas presented to you. You put these ideas to a vote. You share deeper details into the things you know. You host Discord-based small group video meetings. You offer opportunities to engage further in your business. To be part of the Council, you must hold at least 1000 coins.

  • Channels to create: Great Hall, Coin Council
  • Roles to create: Coin 100, Coin 1000
  • Assign roles to channels:
    Great Hall — Coin 100
    Coin Council — Coin 1000
  • Commands to gate access:
    !coin balanceGate — role “Coin 100” — amount 100
    !coin balanceGate — role “Coin 1000” — amount 1000

Level 3: Subscriptions and Auctions

Subscriptions
Yes, you can absolutely build subscriptions with coin_bot. As one month changes to the next, so may your plans and offerings. Perhaps you want to build a newsletter, offer unique NFT or merch drops, or other periodic program that can be bound by a month and disseminated via Discord.

The recurringGate command allows you to create a role that automatically rechecks members accounts every month. You set the amount (value is USD here versus number of coins) you want this recurring subscription to require, and coin_bot will check if a member has sent you that much via Send, Campaign, or donation [Discord command] in the current month.

  • Channel to create: Coin Subscribers
  • Role to create and assign to this channel: Coin Monthly
  • Command to gate access:
!coin recurringGate — role “Coin Monthly” — amount 5
  • Easy donation command for coin holders to get this role:
    !coin donation 5

Auctions
You have some really unique goods and experiences to sell. What better for everyone’s FOMO than an auction!

You can now put items and experiences up for auction with coin_bot. When a user bids, coin_bot will check their account to ensure they have the proper funds to complete a purchase for the amount bid. When an auction has completed, create a private Campaign for the sale amount and send the campaign link to the auction winner to pay for the item.

You configure Auctions in the Rally Discord Bot , go to the Rally Discord Bot Admin interface. (Auctions are configurable by Server Owners only.)

  • Channel to create: Coin Auctions
  • Role to assign to this channel: Coin 1

Level 4: Lifetime spent benefits

If you’ve been selling goods and experiences — Campaigns, NFTs, subscriptions, 1on1 sessions— via your coin, you’re ready to build out the ultra private rooftop party deck where your biggest spenders get to relax and maybe even howl at the moon.

Think of this as your very own Rewards program for dollars spent. Coin_bot is able to read how much someone has spent in your coin over their lifetime.

If someone has sent $1000 USD of your coin to you (and regardless of what they still may hold), perhaps they can still get access to the Great Hall and the Council Room*. You can offer exclusive access to new drops payable in your coin or perhaps even availability of items/info on other platforms.

For example, to acquire your rarest, most legendary NFTs, a coin patron must first spend $1000 USD in their lifetime to unlock access to purchase.

  • Channel to create: Coin Rewards
  • Role to create and assign to this channel: Coin Rewards 1000
  • *Also consider assigning Coin Rewards 1000 to Great Hall and Council Chamber.
  • Command to gate access:
!coin donationGate — role “Coin Rewards 1000” — amount 1000

Last tip: As your community collectively lifts you up, don’t look down. You’re probably floating into space now propelled by the sheer joy your coin brings. But make sure not to get hit by that Tesla they shot into space, I heard the auto drive ain’t so good.
