Industry News:

  • Discord, which raised half a billion in new funding last week at a valuation of $15 billion, appears to be gearing up for a public listing, The Information reported. It’s hiring an executive with SEC reporting chops, and it follows its March hiring of its first chief financial officer.
  • The largest NFT marketplace OpenSea suffered its first financial scandal, as its head of product was discovered to be trading on insider knowledge of NFT drops. The executive resigned within 24 hours of OpenSea acknowledging the misdeed. The allegations were first made and amplified by the NFT community on Twitter.
  • LinkedIn may not be a name that springs to mind for cool creators, but the InMail company is launching a $25 million accelerator program for creators, The Information reported. The 10-week course will take in up to 100 creators, who will also receive a $15,000 grant each.
  • Social tokens news and data site Forefront announced a $2.1 million token swap with venture firms 1KX and Scalar Capital leading the round. Dozens of community members also took part. Forefront bills itself as Web3’s “port of entry”.
  • Billboard published a deep-dive into BitClout, the controversial platform that offers features similar to social tokens. The piece covers BitClout’s regulatory travails and examines the creators who are invested in the platform.
