Only the one who does Dhikr with the heart tastes the sweetness of the act.

Day three of Ramadan 1444 is here and Alhamdulillah it’s really going pretty fast as you can attest. By now, the body should be adjusting to thirst and hunger in hope of reward. We ask Allah to make us one of those who have truly embarked upon this spiritual journey for His sake.

If we look deeply, we might find some of our brethren who are sick and unable to fast. May Allah grant them wellness and quick recovery. So if you’re healthy and fasting, trust me you’re blessed. Take advantage of this opportunity to the best of your ability.

Today in sha Allah, we’d examine the virtues of Dhikr which literarily means remembrance of Allah. Dhikr is to a sound heart the way tune-up is required for a reliable car. The significance of this beautiful form of worship and the rewards attached to it can not be overemphasized.

Let’s see what we have in stock for Ramadan 3–2–1:

3 Derivable Lessons

  • Dhikr is the best of actions, purest in the sight of Allah, and raises your rank to the highest.
  • Allah’s Apostle -peace be upon him- mentioned to us that: “the similitude of the one who remembers his Lord and someone who doesn’t is like that of the living and the dead” — Saheeh Al-Bukhari
  • Your Dhikr will be more impactful when you utter the words with your tongue, you ponder over them in your heart. And then, implement what you can, using your limbs.

2 Pieces of Evidence

Allah says:

“Those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah – Islamic Monotheism), and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah. Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest”— Qur’an 13[Ar-Rad]:28

The Prophet PBUH said:

On the authority of Abu Huraira who said: The Prophet peace be upon him said, “Allah says: ‘I am just as My slave thinks I am, (i.e. I am able to do for him what he thinks I can do for him) and I am with him if He remembers Me. If he remembers Me in himself, I too, remember him in Myself; and if he remembers Me in a group of people, I remember him in a group that is better than they; and if he comes one span nearer to Me, I go one cubit nearer to him; and if he comes one cubit nearer to Me, I go a distance of two outstretched arms nearer to him; and if he comes to Me walking, I go to him running.’” — Saheeh Al-Bukhari

1 Rhetorical Question

When it comes to dhikr, ask yourself: “Are you harnessing every second of your idle time to remember your Lord?” If not, feel sorry for yourself because the time you waste will be a cause of regret on the last day.

That’s it for today and I hope you find it beneficial. Catch you tomorrow by the mercy of Allah. And until then, keep striving to be the best of yourself.
