The Carrizozo Women’s club was founded in 1920 and has played an important role in Lincoln County ever since. The club has fought for the installment of the Valley of Fires state park–the first in NM– created parks and affordable housing in town, and helps send young ladies to school. Shelby Hyatt, the owner of 12th Street Coffee, President of the Women’s Club, and one of the nicest people you will meet in town shared a CWC past project with us, Recipes, Then and Now. Recipes, Then and Now, is a book that displays family recipes from club members over time. Displaying the recipes side-by-side, it is a record of the culinary tradition of town and how it has changed.

Should you find yourself in Carrizozo be sure to visit Shelby at the coffee shop– where you are also likely to meet many of town’s other colorful characters. If you would like to contact the club directly, shoot an email over to info.carrizozowomansclub@gmail.com
