A deck of cards

Cards. Simple pieces of paper with words. They have many purposes. Some cards are used as tokens to express the writer’s appreciation to the receiver. Some cards are used for gambling. And there are some which are used to play games, not the gambling kind. They are trading card games (or collectible card games).

It was through such card games that I found another world. This category of cards has more than one way to play, and with different card games come different types of gameplay. Different card games would require different set ups, and all of them have their own set of rules in order for the game to proceed. With all of that, each card game would come with different cards. Different cards meaning different things, different cards having different skills, and different decks of cards having different playstyles. Some are aggressive, some are passive, some focus on offence rather than defence, some the other way around. And even within one such game has such diverse tactics to play, making all of them rather unique.

Cards in general mean a lot to me because of its different uses, but this category of cards… It is through these cards that I can find something special to look forward to. Whenever they release a booster box or a new trial deck based on the clans / nation I really like to play with (or any other clan / nation for that matter), there comes new cards — with new skills, new art, and the joy of opening packs, editing my deck and then playtesting it later with my sister to see if the deck still works. Perhaps it may get boring to play against the same opponent over and over, but using different clans / nations to play, then discovering how to effectively use them to defeat the opponent? Well that is the fun part too, is it not?
