the elastics, the heels, the chic MaryJane style —

dancing in heels

was something I thought I’d never do

standing in you felt so foreign

but made me feel so important

as I strutted around in you

like a young child playing grown-up

skipping, jumping, twirling in heels

was something I thought I’d never get used to

but it felt so natural

standing on tippy-toes

feet snug, encased

in your flexible black canvas

that allowed my creativity to flow —

-

streaks that you and I left on the dance floor

like fluid strokes of watercolour

of an artist’s brush on his canvas —

rhythms of heel-clicks and accents and stomps

that you and I wrote in the pages of vinyl wood —

the remarkable feeling of the dance floor underfoot

as we twirled and whirled, spun and danced —

until I could no longer wear you

-

you were something I knew I’d grow out of someday

but dancing in heels

is something I know I’d never grow out of
