Love Came Down

Love is patient.

Love is kind.

Love is like a welcomed flood during a season of drought,

where doors are thrown out wide and windows flung open,

with people waiting expectantly for the arrival of this distinguished guest.

No fear of drowning,

I embrace the warm caress of the waves

As His love, in wave after wave

crashes over me,

refreshing me,

my spirit rejuvenates.

Love is pure.

Love is powerful.

Love is sacrificial and knows no bounds.

Stopping at nothing,

breaking down pillars and walls,

hurt, pain and destruction — no more.

A war is raging beyond those eyes of sorrow,

a battle of light and darkness,

day and night,

shimmers and shadows.

But love comes, as He always will

and covers with a blanket of comfort and peace.

Before I knew love I was a slave to many things.

Fear, insecurity, unbelief.

But I received Him gladly,

with arms wide open,

with heart full of hope,

with liberation at the tip of my tongue —

I can almost taste it.

He alone carries the key,

reflecting light in the midst of a world of black.

My strength renews,

my heart soars,

for love came down,

clothing me in colours,

calling me by name,

for love came down and set me free.

Of this love, I know no other,

but this one that comes from my Father.

Who was and is and is to come,

from whom, I know, this love came down.
