Can we do too much UX ?

What you’ve experienced is not so much of “Too much UX”, but more so, a less than ideal experience using a product and service. Saying too much UX is basically saying too much “User Experience”, which sounds kind of odd as UX is an outcome from ones interaction with a product/service. In your case, it appears you had a mediocre experience with a service as it was constantly trying to grab your attention through superfluous updates.
