It was almost 9 o’clock on a Saturday night and Dina Wilcox was on her stomach watching the Montgomery estate from the copse of trees that bordered the property. Frank Montgomery was in his first-floor office, staring at his computer, but Dina’s binoculars weren’t focused on him, instead they were focused on the frame on the far wall. That was what she was there for.

In the frame was Frank’s prized possession, a bar napkin. It was a plain white napkin, twenty-five years old, stained with beer and sweat and light beige foundation, and yet it was priceless, but only to Frank.

When the millionaire CEO was seventeen, he had snuck into a Seattle dive bar to watch some punk band play. The lead singer used that napkin to wipe his forehead and tossed it aside, but the young Frank grabbed that bit of trash and stuffed it into his pocket, because even as a young kid, Frank had an eye for talent and he knew that this Kurt Cobain kid was going somewhere.

Of course, he didn’t have the napkin framed until years later. And no one believed his story about it, but that didn’t stop him from keeping that bit of ephemera in a prominent…
