Weekend Lake Adventure
My wife and I are always looking for new things to do on the weekends. This weekend we were lucky to find such a thing to do that combines two things that are very important to us. Hunt Country Vineyards on Keuka Lake was holding their annual Hunt Country Dog Walk. This event is an event that is held to support the Humane Society of Yates County. And for us the best part about this event is that it is open to dogs. Yes you get to take your dog(s) with you to this event to support an organization that supports dogs without a home. We were excited both for an opportunity to go to an event and show our support for the Humane Society of Yates County as well as an opportunity to take our dog Brynn with us on an outing.
For this event people attending the event were able to take their dogs for a walk around the vineyards. There were marked trails for people to follow. You could choose from the short, medium, or long trails. For us the choice was obvious, its the long trail all the way. We love being outdoors and Brynn has boundless energy to burn. In addition to taking a nice walk there was food available as well as wine. Also the added bonus of getting to see other dogs. There were such a wide variety of dogs therefrom Dachshunds to Samoyed to mixed breeds. There were dogs from the Humane Society of Yates County present that were available for adoption. We always love to get out and see other dogs. It was a very nice event.
After that we headed up to Keuka Lake State Park. We explored the park with Brynn. Brynn Played with her tennis ball. We saw another dog swimming in the lake. Brynn got to experience lake water for the first time. She has never been to a lake and wasn’t quite sure what to make of the waves crashing on the shore. At home she has a pond but that is a totally different experience for her.
After we were done at Keuka Lake State Park we ventured up to Penn Yan and spent some time at some of the local parks and outdoors areas. We visited Indian Pines and Red Jacket parks where Brynn was able to get a little more acquainted with the lake. We also hiked a little of the Keuka Lake Outlet Trail. That was a first for all of us. I have been wanting to check it out fo a while so I was happy to hike it for a short time. I expect I will be back to make a longer hike some time.
We left Penn Yan and headed south to visit the village of Hammondsport on Keuka Lake. On the way down stopped at another lake front public park and enjoyed the lake. Brynn continued to develop her fondness for the lake. She is really beginning to like playing fetch in the lake. She was on a fairly short leash, literally, so we couldn’t toss anything too far out into the water. I think Brynn was fine with that because the waves were large and she still wasn’t sure what to make of them all the time.
Then we moved on to the Village of Hammondsport where we parked in their business district and upon walking around could smell some delicious aromas emanating from some of the local restaurants. We walked down to their waterfront park. It was nice to just walk around and enjoy the park and play with Brynn. She is starting to get bolder in the water. She is gaining confidence. She played some fetch and she kept us entertained.
My wife, Brynn, and I had a great day on Saturday. We Spent the whole day out and about an a little adventure not really knowing for sure what we were going to do. We just made it up as we went along. We enjoyed each others company and enjoyed being outside taking in nature. We simply enjoyed life. It was a nice getaway from the everyday life tasks that can sometimes drag you down. So when you need a pick me up grab your friends and your dogs and get out in nature and enjoy life.
PS. Brynn was so tired after our adventure she slept the whole one hour plus drive home. This was great considering we weren’t sure how she’d do since she hasn’t been on too many long drive. We had brought some of her toys to occupy her if she was restless.
