When I stepped into my second 30-day challenge I thought, this one would be easier than the first 30-day challenge. As always my judgement was wrong.

Little confidence which I gained after successful completion of no-caffeine challenge, got shattered on very first day. I wanted to throw towel and call this challenge a failure. That’s the level of comfort I share with fictional books.

I set three conditions for this challenge — first I should read a physical copy not eBooks(I love eBooks), I have to develop a habit of reading a book before hitting the bed which helps to reduce everyday stress booking reading before bed time and lastly it has to be fiction.

As per my plan, I started with a fictional short story book and after a couple of days I was not enjoying reading those books(Sorry O.Henry), I was rushing through the pages just to complete the task. I hated myself for doing this. So I removed fiction and modified my plan to non-fiction,physical book and before bed time.

During this challenge I got the opportunity to read four books — Creativity Inc, Obstacle is the way, Eat That Frog!, The 24X7 Marriage. Though I haven’t completed them fully, once done will write a complete review about these books as a separate post.

Two things I learnt from completing this book read challenge

  1. If you are an ardent fan of non-fiction books then it is little tougher to get into fictional & other genre of books. It may not be same for others, some may find it refreshing to read new kind of stories. But I really struggled with it. I have to figure out a way to enjoy reading fictional books. Completely failed this time, but I will definitely give a try soon.
  2. If you are planning something similar. I strongly suggest you to fix a time for the task in your daily calendar. Days where I planned my book reading time I was able to complete the challenge much easier and I spent more time reading than searching for quiet place to read or switching between books which one to read.

These are my major learning with book reading challenge. Will keep you updated on my next month’s challenge.
