My 2017 Homescreen

I started the habit of sharing my Homescreen couple of years ago (2016, 2015), and this year I thought to end it. For a while now the organization of my homescreen does not mean as much as it used to. More often than not I will launch an app using the search interface. A simple swipe down + typing a single letter is usually a faster way to get what I want :)

The only reason I find the homescreen organization to be still valuable is in creating habits and as an opportunity to to show which apps I’m frequently using :)

I will skip the obvious and focus on the less known ones:

Fitbit Coach (FitStar acquisition) — Use it specifically for their great 7 Min exercise videos

Headspace — I’m trying to meditate more and exploring if Headspace is helpful. No clear conclusion yet

Mint — My financial dashboard. It includes everything besides Robinhood :(

Kindle — Used iBooks for few years and made a switch once they enabled importing my own books

Paper — This is our docs platform @ Yodas. Awesome product

2Do app — Surprisingly this my the most favorable todo list that stuck with my the longest

Habitify — After trying to use ‘Way of Life’ for a while and not liking the interface and the complexity Habitify seems to do a much better job. I’ve started using it only recently so we will see

Firefox Focus — I do my best to avoid Chrome as google has enough information on me. Safari is pretty good but I would love to see Firefox come back and become a significant player. So far Firefox Focus has working great and provided a great interface to consume content in a clean interface

Widgets

I interact with some of the apps I use the most through their widget. My favorite widgets are Robinhood & Coinbase which in both cases I open the apps from the widget. Fantastical & Habitify are also there though I still use the app shortcuts to open them.

Intentionally Missing

I do my best to reduce time spent on social. Both Instagram & Facebook are apps I frequently use but are not on the Homescreen and do not have notifications enabled.

Amazon is another obvious app that I use but want to use and definitely not think about when I’m opening my phone :)
