“A“Alright. Thank you Mr. Bansal for your help. When can I get those documents?” Mrs. Malhotra was talking to someone when Ria entered her room.

She saw Ria coming and cut the call at that moment itself. Ria sensed something wrong and gave her mother a serious look, enquiring about her conversation. Mrs. Malhotra knew that hiding decisions wouldn’t help at all.

“I’m Getting a divorce.”

Ria’s mother was independent and she knew that she could survive without her husband. A husband who did not need her as well as his daughter at all. Moreover, Ria had completed her education and was well settled so she didn’t consider any second thoughts. Her husband had in a way accepted his affair with his secretary and had given up on his family, office, everything.

There was no valid reason for continuing a relationship just for pretending things and for the sake of society. Her mother was strong enough to handle herself as well as her daughter. Within a duration of 8 months, they had shifted to some other apartment, Ria had got a promotion as a result of her hard work and dedication and her mother had opened her own clothing store in one of the biggest mall of Delhi.

Work kept them busy and away from memories, thoughts and, truly saying, depression. They had moved on in their lives and were pretty happy.

She always used to say this whenever Ria doubted their decision to leave her father, “Some people think that it’s holding on that makes one strong; sometimes it’s letting go.”

“Please go back home Aman! Its 11:30 already, mom will kill me now” Ria whispered while they were both standing outside the main gate of her house.

It was completely dark and luckily there was no one around in the corridor. Aman held her tightly and was getting all romantic when Ria’s phone rang.

“Fuck” she said, scared as she knew it was her mother.

“Sure, baby!” he winked, coming really close to her.

She stared at him for a second or two and then pushed him away, completely embarrassed.

Picking up her phone she said, “Mom I’m almost there. I’m sorry for getting so late today.”

“Come inside and get your over romantic friend too. It’s all audible inside” she said and then burst out laughing.

The door opened and they went inside; Aman had no clue how to cover up or run away.

Mrs. Malhotra stared at them for a moment with a serious look on her face, and the after scaring the hell out of them, cracked a smile. Aman finally breathed after noting her reaction and Ria started acting like a newly wedded being questioned about her special night.

She called them closer and said just two words “Good choice”.
