in a Random Tiny Tale titled Fellowship

The story begins with The Cottage:

Jim’s mother never allowed him to see his father’s body. All he heard from his mother was, “Go and stay at your friend’s home. Come back after two days. And don’t ask questions.”

Jim never asked questions. He assumed his father had died that night. Months later her mother fell sick and eventually died. Between these two days what no one knew happened was that Jim met a man. Tall, fair and one-eyed.

“You must be Jim,” he claimed.

“I am, sir. Who are you?”

“I am the man you are looking for.”

“I am not looking for anyone, sir.”

“Every one is.”

“Not me.”

“Not even your father?”

“How do you know?”

“Jim, I may not bring you your father back but I can tell you answers. That is, if you have good questions.”

Jim had questions — burning questions — inside him. He asked one.

“How did my father die?”

“He hasn’t. Yet.”
