It’s June 2020.

San Jose will host the 31st Apple Worldwide Developers Conference. This event is dedicated to a groundbreaking new product that shook the world since it was introduced in January:

Apple Car.

The car industry is still in shock, and tries to copy Apple on the hardware side. While that happens, Apple moves forward to differentiate on software – and is expected to open its car platform to developers, just as it did with iPhone, kickstarting the App Revolution.

iOS, watchOS, tvOS, macOS, carOS.

WWDC19 for the first time covers 5 platforms: iOS, watchOS, tvOS, macOS, and now carOS. They drive Apple’s product line: iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and now Apple Car.

carOS will be introduced today.

Tim Cook is up on stage.

„Say, you are like me and have a lot of colourful shirts. You take them to the laundry shop, and pick them up. You have a membership so you don’t pay in cash everytime. Still, you do the same trip every week.“

„Apple Car can do that for you.“

„What it needs though is an interface with the laundry business.“

„We have done the hardware interface, you need to do the software interface.“

„Deal?“ (applause)

„An integral part of carOS is carKit, which you can use to design business interfaces.“

„You will get the developer preview today.“

„Now, carKit will feature three main use cases for now.“

  1. Work“ for being productive on the go, when you‘re commuting
  2. Workout“ for staying healthy and fit
  3. Hangout“ for entertaining friends and family

„We think these will be the three main things you will do in cars.“

„Apple Car will adjust its interior based on the use case, and you can design the experience with an AR app.“
