Obamacare Repeal Mobilizes Thousands Nationwide
Republicans make moves to strip healthcare and the people resist
On Sunday, thousands rallied nationwide with healthcare activists, trade unions, senior groups, and Democratic members of Congress to oppose Republicans’ crusade to repeal Obamacare — a move that is set to leave more than 25 million Americans uninsured.
Despite having no plan for replacement, Republicans took the first step in repealing the Affordable Care Act/Obamacare and struck down six amendments intended to protect basic healthcare benefits, including protections for people with pre-existing conditions, maintained access to contraceptive coverage, and the ability for young people to stay on their parents’ healthcare plan until they are 26.
The people, and Democratic leaders, resisted these actions by Republican members of Congress, declaring “We won’t let you get away with it!” at the #OurFirstStand rallies organized across the country. Leaders headlining these rallies included: Sen. Bernie Sanders, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, Sen. Kamala Harris, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Sen. Cory Booker, and Sen. Tammy Baldwin.
