Rap music is known to have a better reach among the younger demographics. This facet of rap can be significant for demographic-sensitive issues such as elections. Elections turnout can vary widely among age groups within a country. This is a post on rap songs that talk about voting and the electoral system.

Plan B — First Past the Post

The first is from a British rapper called Plan B who has not been as musically active these past few years. His typical material is very ballad-like but a surprise release right before the UK General Elections, he talks about something very technical — the first past the post voting system that the UK and many other countries use. Lowkey — Vote Corbyn

The second is from Lowkey who is well known for his very political material. He released a song right before the same UK Elections’ voting day to support the Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn. The tune actually belongs to Stormzy from a song called Vossi Bop. Stormzy was amongst a number of British popular artists who signed a public letter supporting Jeremy Corbyn (which Lowkey also signed), so the instrumental use was probably consented to. Video…
