We are announcing General Availability for RAPIDS on Windows 11 via WSL, the Windows Subsystem for Linux. Usability is now part of our pre-release testing. We have launched a new web page fully documenting all the supported installation options, and we are excited to further deliver our vision of fluid, fast data science that is only limited by your creativity.

WSL allows Windows users to run Linux applications seamlessly. You can read more about it here. The RAPIDS team has had its sights on this goal for a long time. A few months ago, we released a note on how to install RAPIDS in WSL2 for Windows 11. Now, we are delighted to announce a specific, full-feature micro-site dedicated to documenting how to unleash RAPIDS on your Windows machine.

What does GA mean? Compatibility with WSL is now core to RAPIDS continuous integration testing, being tested nightly, and is tested prior to release. If you ask us a question on StackOverflow, the RAPIDS team will address them. We will be producing content around working with RAPIDS on Windows throughout this Autumn. GA means we are now developing with the Windows user at the top of mind, as much so as Ubuntu users.

RAPIDS requires Windows 11. You need to have a GPU of Compute 7.0 or higher. We recommend at least 8 GB of RAM. You need to be running WSL2, it will not run on WSL1. Finally, RAPIDS only supports Ubuntu. Again, check out the great looking new site we have that will walk you through this.

There are three things that we would like to see you do. First, try this out! We think that you will really enjoy it. Second, interact with us! We’re on twitter (@RAPIDSAI), we’re on github, and we are eager to hear from you. Third, watch for more RAPIDS/WSL content here in the coming weeks and months. We hope you enjoy, and that this marks the beginning of a productive Fall to or a part of the new beginnings of Spring.
