Location: Vallecitos Pt, La Jolla Shores
Max Depth: 95 ft.
Mix: 28% [Ahhhh…the joys of Voodoo Gas !]
Viz: not bad: 20–30 ft. in the shallows [ie: beyond light range] and 15 ft. further down
Dive Buddies: Merrianne, Jackie, Jimbo and Peter
Marine Life Observed: one adult Horn Shark and numerous, large Lion Nudibranchs, as well as: Scorpionfish, Brown Shrimp and a Pipefish
Highlights:
— good visibility: beyond range of lights in the shallows and at least 15 ft. further down
— saw for the first time, the fabled large [the size of a small mouse], snow-white Lion nudibranchs, clinging to the fronds of the new, mini-kelp forest on Vallecitos Pt. Brought them to the attention of the two photographers we had with us, who snapped away at them, happy as clams.
— bumped into a large, adult male Horn Shark in the shallows, around 3 ft. long and for the first time, took the time to ‘sex’ him by observing the large claspers he had on the underside of the dorsal area, determining it to be a male. Now, we just need to do that with the next 7 Gill we come across!
