Rapyuta Robotics opens new office in Bengaluru, India
Press release: January 20, 2016
Bengaluru, India — Rapyuta Robotics (Chuo, Tokyo. CEO: Gajan Mohanarajah) opens a new office in Bengaluru (formerly Bangalore), India. Along with existing offices in Tokyo (Japan) and Zurich (Switzerland) the company now has a presence in three countries. The Bengaluru team will focus on building the Platform-as-a-Service framework that is the backbone of Rapyuta Robotics’ cloud platform.
“There is a global battle for tech talent, and this is especially the case in robotics,” said Rapyuta Robotics CEO Gajan Mohanarajah. “With over 900 tech firms and startups at the center of India’s USD$147 billion IT industry, Bengaluru has groomed some of the world’s top IT and cloud computing talent. It was an easy business decision that we should tap into that talent in order to grow and complement our already diverse team.”
Dhananjay Sathe will lead the platform development at the new Bengaluru office, having previously been part of the development of the cloud engine for RoboEarth (http://roboearth.org/), an EU-based research consortium that was the first to demonstrate cloud robotics in a laboratory setting. Sathe is joined by Praveen Ramanujam, who previously held positions at the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) and Robert Bosch. The Bengaluru office has plans to hire an additional eight staff by the end this year.
Rapyuta Robotics launched its Indian operations out of the Swiss Embassy, as part of Swissnex, Switzerland’s global innovation network. The Bengaluru office is now conveniently located in a 100 sq.m. office next to the Indiranagar Metro station.
“Some people ask us, Why India?” said Rapyuta Robotics CEO Gajan Mohanarajah. “When Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella visited the country in 2014 he commented that ‘It feels fantastic to be talking to the youth of India. The energy is palpable, the optimism is palpable, and the confidence is here to be seen.’ We have seen this energy for ourselves in the warm welcome we have received and in the diversity of talent, we are now working with. We are excited to grow with our Bengaluru team.”
