Zurich, Switzerland — Swiss Commission for Technology and Innovation (CTI) will provide approximately USD 500,000 in funding to support the development of Rapyuta Robotics’ Cloud Robotics Platform in partnership with the ICCLab/SPLab at the Zurich University of Technology.

CTI helps deliver products and services to market by facilitating joint research and development collaborations between higher education institutions and businesses. The funds will be used to support ICCLab/SPLab as it works to develop Rapyuta Robotics’ enterprise-grade cloud robotics platform into a “marketable innovation”.

Headed by Prof. Thomas Michael Bohnert, ICCLab/SPLab’s roughly 30 members play an active role in the Swiss Cloud Community. The group focuses on Cloud Computing (Infrastructure/platforms ) and Service Prototyping and has placed particular emphasis on transferring results from applied research into product innovation. The group has also made significant contributions to the OpenStack platform.

“We have been working with Prof. Bohnert’s group for almost a year to find solutions to the challenges of building an enterprise-level cloud robotics platform,” said Rapyuta Robotics’ CEO Gajan Mohanarajah. “This collaboration will strengthen our efforts to provide the robotics community with a robust platform on which to connect. With their help, we will hasten the robotics revolution.”

ICCLab/SPLab’s Dr. Giovanni Toffetti will lead the collaboration from their side. The results of the collaboration with ICCLab/SPLab will be released as open source.
