We’re R.A.R.E: (Rare Art Registry and Exchange) Art Labs, the founders of the R.A.R.E: Protocol: the first crypto-economy for the digital art world.
Our goal is to help artists get the money they deserve for their digital works on a blockchain-verified network. You can read more about the technical aspects of how we plan to change the relationship between art and commerce in our white paper here; but for now, let’s talk a little bit about who we are and why we’re here.
RARE Art Labs is a group of artists, developers, and FinTech entrepreneurs coming together to help artists monetize off of their digital works using the RARE Protocol/Network.
The R.A.R.E: Protocol serves three purposes:
- It creates a way for artists to sell their digital works directly to a community that appreciates the value of art.
- It enables fans to buy verified digital works from their favorite artists.
- Collectors can trade those verified goods with one another, creating a marketplace for digital art
While we’re the first crypto-economy for digital art, the crypto-collectible space has been one of the most successful use-cases for the blockchain. One of the pioneers, Rare Pepe, has been lauded as an early example of creating scarcity around a digital good. Cryptokitties went viral just last week for selling a $100,000 virtual cat. Yes, no matter the medium, if something is agreed upon as scarce, its value is bound to increase.
We want to apply this same principle of scarcity to a verifiable one-of-one Annie Leibovitz photograph, a track produced by Quincy Jones, or illustration by Kaws. That’s where a crypto-economy for art is powerful, and something we’re excited to bring to the world.
