How To Buy Rare Digital Art On R.A.R.E. In 5 Easy Steps
(This guide is to prepare for RARE’s launch on May 9th — 12th at Pow Wow and Ethereal. Complete steps 1–3 so you’re ready!)
We’re excited you’re interested in buying scarce digital art on The R.A.R.E. Network.
These instructions are made for mobile, which is where the Toshi web browser (built by our friends at Coinbase), is located. Toshi comes with an Ethereum wallet built-in, which brings us to our first step…
Step 1: Buy Some Ethereum
*Note: If you already own Ethereum (ETH), then skip to Step 2*
Ethereum (ETH) is the cryptocurrency needed to buy art on RARE.
The easiest place to buy Ethereum (ETH) is on the Coinbase app, which you can find on the iTunes App Store or GooglePlay Store.
After you’ve gone through the initial steps to sign up for Coinbase, click “Settings”, then “Add a payment method”.
The “Bank Account” option will be cheaper (but takes longer). Choose the “Debit Card” option to start buying R.A.R.E. Digital Art in minutes (but pay a higher fee).
Next, go the “Accounts” section and click ETH Wallet, then click “Buy”.
Because of the way the Ethereum network works, you will often need to pay tiny transaction fees called “gas fees”, which is why we encourage you to buy more ETH than you need for the art immediately.
Step 2: Download Toshi
Toshi is a mobile internet browser built by Coinbase with an Ethereum wallet built-in. Think of this like the App Store for decentralized applications.
To get started, download Toshi from the iTunes App Store or GooglePlay Store.
After install, Toshi will walk you through the steps of creating your account and Ethereum wallet.
You’ll eventually want to go through their Security Steps to secure your R.A.R.E. digital art, but for now let’s get buying.
Step 3: Send Your Ethereum to Toshi
In Toshi, go to your “Wallet”
Find your Wallet Address at the top and click “Copy”
Return to the Coinbase app.
In your “Accounts” section, go to your ETH Wallet.
Click the arrow in the top-right corner (the “Send” button)
Enter the amount you want to send to Toshi and click “Continue”.
Paste your Toshi wallet address in the “To” field. This will send your Ethereum to the Toshi app.
Click the “Send” button in the top-right corner, and then click “Confirm”.
In just a few seconds, your ETH will appear in your Toshi wallet.
Step 4: Find The R.A.R.E. Network On Toshi
After your Ethereum (ETH) hits your Toshi wallet, click the “Dapps” button on the bottom left and then search for The R.A.R.E. Network.
Step 5: Buy Your Art
Now in the R.A.R.E. app, buy or bid on any artwork you like!
Any artwork you buy will be scarce, permanent, tradable and forever R.A.R.E.!
