Pitch Report (Old Trafford, Manchester)

Old Trafford is one of the rarely stadiums in England where batters enjoy batting. The ball comes onto the bat nicely and the bounce is even. However, it doesn’t mean that there won’t be anything at all for bowlers. Given the weather in England, there is always something for bowlers, especially with the new ball. Expect batters to score big but bowlers will come good as well.

Dependable Trio for D3

  • Ravi Bopara (OG — Batter 5) (England) [Captain]: Ben Stokes might bat at number 5 for England. He has been in tremendous form with the bat, scoring big runs. The all-rounder struck a powerful 80-run knock in the last match, ensuring England get on top in first innings. Even if it someone like Harry Brook or Jonny Bairstow who bats at number 5, it is still a safe option.
  • Mitchell Marsh (Australia): Mitchell Marsh came like a storm in the last match and his first in the series. He left everyone stunned with his aggressive batting. It almost felt he is batting somewhere else; while everyone was struggling, he was displaying his stroke-play all-around the park. He would definitely carry the confidence in this match and with Old Trafford wicket likely to favour batters, he could score mighty.
  • Pat Cummins (Australia): Whether you play at Old Trafford or anywhere else, the kind of form Pat Cummins is in right now, you can’t drop him. He has been breathing fire in this Ashes and could again be the show-stopper in this fourth Test for Australia. He can get dangerous with the bat as well. So, easily a dependable pick for this match.
