Pitch Report (Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad)

The pitch at Ahmedabad will be a great one for batting. The ball will come· onto the bat nicely and there will be some assistance for the spinners in the first innings. There will be dew in the latter half and batting will become easier. The new ball will move around a bit under the lights. Teams may prefer chasing but both teams are expected to bat first as we’ve seen the Proteas struggle badly while chasing. Expect scores in excess of 270 in this match.

Dependable Trio for D3

Quinton de Kock (South Africa): Quinton de Kock is the highest run-scorer of ODI WC 2023 with 550 runs in 8 innings at an average of 68.75 including 4 centuries to his name. He was dismissed for just 5 in the last game and will be eager to score big in this game. He is expected to do well, especially while batting first.

Azmatullah Omarzai (Afghanistan): Azmatullah Omarzai has been brilliant for Afghanistan. He will bat in the middle order and will bowl his full quota. He bowled with the new ball in the last game and showed his class. Omarzai will be an important player for his team with both bat and ball. He will be a good captain pick if Afghanistan bats first.

Marco Jansen (South Africa) [Captain]: Marco Jansen had a bad outing in the last game against India but he is expected to trouble the Afghan batters with his pace and bounce. He has been excellent with the new ball; picking up wickets in almost every game. Jansen is capable with the bat as well and he will be our captain pick for this game.
