Is “The Shining” the best horror movie ever? You bet your pennies it is!
My favorite movie of all time is a horror movie!
I have seen “The Shining” by the legendary director Stanley Kubrick for over 100 times and each time I end up loving the movie more and more. Well Stephen King might have been very disappointed with Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation and vision of his book but in my opinion, the movie transcends the book in ways I could never have imagined. If you want to learn how to create tension and terror in a movie, then watch “The Shining”. It still strikes horror in my heart to this day and no wonder has so much love and praise from people all around the world. The current IMDB rating is 8.4 with over a million reviews!
The shining is not a movie but an emotion for me. Right from the opening shot to the end credits, there is a very unsettling tone captured in the film and trust me as the movie reaches its exhilarating, tense and horrific finale, we are left glued to the screens and praying for our beloved characters to make it out alive from this nightmarish ordeal. To this day the words “Here’s Johnny” sends shivers down my spine.
Jack Nicholson’s enigmatic performance was an instant hit for me, and this is the movie that made me his fan. He is the soul of the movie and his performance sticks with you long after the movie has ended, and the curtains have rolled up. In my opinion, this is one movie that can never be remade and is a timeless classic that will continue to strike terror in the hearts of the audience and serve as an inspiration for even the new age filmmakers to come in the future.
Stanley Kubrick was a genius filmmaker and through this movie, I became an ardent fan of his work and started watching his other classics such as 2001: A space Odessey and A Clockwork Orange. In my opinion he was the Einstein of our filmmaking world. We may well never see a director that can surpass him.
If you have never seen this movie, then it’s my recommendation to watch it as soon as possible. The shining is and will continue to be my all-time favorite movie. I am still waiting for a movie to be as intense, nerve wracking and horrific to grab my attention. For those movie fans who have seen the “The shining” what to do think of this movie?
