Directed by: Damien Leone

Starring: Lauren LaVera, Elliott Fullam, Sarah Voigt, Kailey Hyman, Casey Harnett, David Howard Thornton

The movie synopsis on IMDB is as follows:

After being resurrected by a sinister entity, Art the Clown returns to the timid town of Miles County where he targets a teenage girl and her younger brother on Halloween night.

Art the clown makes a sinister return in this sequel to Terrifier (2016) and is the third movie to feature “Art the clown” in a lead role. Like the previous movie, the director opted to make use of practical effects in order give the movie a very realistic feel. The previous movie clocked in at 86 minutes while Terrifier 2 has a very generous runtime of 138 minutes and if my memory serves me right, it just might be the longest movie to be released in this genre in the last decade or so.

The gore and slasher kills are extremely graphic and hence not for the weak of heart. There were previously reports that the movie had caused some members in the audience to faint and even vomit, when watching the graphic violence and brutal horror depicted in the movie.

The role of “Art the clown” is once again played by David Howard Thorton, who gives a very surreal and sinister performance. His performance as a demonic killer clown has been hugely successful and I am certain that in the near future, “Art the clown” will be heralded as one of the best slasher movie characters of all time. The rest of the cast also puts in a good performance. Lauren LaVera in the role of Sienna Shaw is in top form and puts forth a very gritty and sincere performance. I was constantly scared for her character and hoping that she would escape this nightmarish ordeal.

There are many gory scenes depicted in great detail and this makes the viewer feel uneasy and also afraid of “Art the Clown”. It's been a really long time since I have seen a slasher movie like Terrifier 2. For fans of extreme horror, this is a real gem of a movie and is sure to become a cult classic in years to come.

The movie is not perfect and has flaws as well. The runtime is a bit too long and as a result at some instances, the movie dragged a bit as well. In my opinion better editing would have helped further in heightening the tension and holding the attention of the audience. The story is not so well written. The movie introduced several interesting plot points, but in the end, these were never explored further. In the process of making the movie as graphic as possible, I feel that the makers have not given much focus on the story.

Nevertheless, “Terrifier 2” justifies its name and is a very terrifying movie with extreme violence and horror that has not been witnessed in the last few years. “Art the clown” has finally cemented his fear in our hearts with a chilling performance that might actually make you afraid of clowns!

Final rating: 7.2/10
