Getting to know our deer spirit animals and seeing the world’s largest bronze statue of Buddha at the Todai-ji temple.

The JR train brought us to Nara and we were excited to see some deer.

We checked into the Noborioji Hotel, which was incredible because they upgraded us to the largest suite ever.

We admired our massive room and got ready for dinner.

Biggest bed ever? Living room we didn’t use.

The hotel booked our dinner at Akishinonomori (earning another michelin star, total count: five), a beautiful restaurant that was 30 minutes away.

After dinner we went back to our hotel and had a drink at the bar. We were the only ones in there so we got to chat with the bartender (assisted by google translate) and learned a lot about Nara. And Japanese whiskey.

We went with the Yamazaki 18

We woke up and decided to try the “western” style breakfast at the hotel.

It was also a multiple course endeavor, but necessary in order to complete a day of deer sightseeing.

After breakfast it was time to finally see some deer. Before entering the park you are warned that these deer don’t fuck around.

The deer also have excellent etiquette, it is customary for them to bow.

After walking through the park we arrived at Todai-ji temple.

Agyō, one of the two Niō guardians at the Nandai-mon in front of the Todai ji in Nara. These are some of the finest wooden sculptures in Japan from the 13th century carved by Unkei in 1203.

It must have been lunch time for the deer because they were getting a little demanding.

Before they could eat us, we made our escape. We were back on the main road when I noticed this awesome gate.

Rebecca also noticed this cute french cafe, Monsieur Pepe, and we stopped in for a bite to eat.

We picked up our bags and headed to the train station. Our next stop was the passover seder in Kobe.

We said goodbye to our spirit animals and got on the train with our suitcases during rush hour, luckily we had seats.
