If You Don’t Drop Everything And Travel Now, You Probably Never Will.
Summary: Quit your job, end your going-nowhere relationship, sell all your crap. You’ll probably never get another chance. There are real things in life that will prevent you from traveling in the future, but they’re probably not the things that are “preventing” you right now.
If you don’t go now, you’ll probably never go. Too often do I hear, “I’d love to travel, but…”
Travel can be one of the most transformative experiences of your life. Don’t miss out on the chance of a lifetime. You never know what will come along. There are plenty of things that could actually stop you:
- Meeting the love of your life, getting engaged, getting married, and settling down. Particularly if your SO doesn’t want to travel.
- A mortgage that ties up all your income in a house you can’t sell.
- Commitment in general.
- Children
- Injury/Disability
- Disease
- Death
- A disabled/diseased/dying/injured child, parent, partner, or other person who you must take care of.
- A new job that you actually, seriously love.
- Actually too poor (underemployed/unemployed/unemployable)
- National/world catastrophe
- Actually too old/fragile/disabled
- Life.
All of the above could happen. Many are likely. Some are guaranteed (maybe). Don’t take for granted the freedom you have right now. Particularly if you’re single/childless/uncommitted/don’t care about your job/don’t really care about your relationship… just fucking go right now.
But you won’t.
Let me guess… Your work really needs you. You’re in the middle of “starting a business”. You just met some girl who is pretty cool. You don’t have/make enough money. You just need to save a little more. Your dog/cat/hamster/giraffe can’t live without you. You’ll go next year. You’ll go soon. You need to plan it out more. You need time to think about it. You need to save money now so you can travel later. You’ll go eventually. There will be a better time for it soon.
