Three days ago, the Raven’s Hall publication announced the winners of our first Drabble Challenge Contest. That challenge served as a tester, to allow us to decide if we wanted to offer successive ones. However, though it had a fantastic turnout, we’re changing direction. Before we explain what we’re doing differently, we’d like to thank everyone who helped the contest succeed and again say congratulations to all winners!

Now to explain where we’re heading:

We now have our initial drabble community base established, and what we intend to do with these drabble prompts, is drop the contest format. This means that from here on out, drabble prompts will serve as exercises and imagination fodder rather than to celebrate winning drabbles.

There will be a new prompt issued every two weeks. Entries will be displayed in the ‘Prompted Drabble’ section of the Raven’s Hall publication’s homepage. Then, when the new prompt is announced, entries from the previous one will be listed to help promote the author’s efforts.

The expiry date for this one is February 20th.

Drabble Prompt #2

Two absolute strangers get caught in torrential rain, and one shares their umbrella. They are together long enough to discuss some things, and one or more surprises are revealed. What is it, or are they?

There is no limit as to what you can do with this. The prompt is to inspire, and as long as your drabble is 100 words and has two people in the rain who are strangers to each other sharing an umbrella, and at least one revelation made, it’s all good.

A drabble is a short story that’s exactly 100 words in length. It’s a test of skill in a sense, testing the author’s ability to deliver meaningful content in limited wording.

On a Related Note

Typically, the community was kind during the month of the drabble contest, and there was an incident too. But you know, we’re in the early days, and with these prompt exercises, there may be things that need tweaking as we go along. I, like everyone, am not perfect, and am learning to do the best job of running community drabble prompts for Raven’s Hall (and poetry prompts for Roadkill Society) as I go along.

If you get frustrated with anything that arises, understand that problems don’t stem from neglect—I am doing my best. Certainly, everyone deserves respect, which is all I ask.

If you’d prefer not to be tagged, please let me know. Likewise, if you’d like to be added to future prompt mentions, drop a comment below. Questions? Feel free to ask in the comments section.
