What is a playlist for gamers?

We at RAWG are currently developing tools for gamers to share their gaming experience with the world. From day one users could create a collection which was basically a list of games with a title and short description. It was much like Spotify’s playlists.

RAWG Collections 1.0

Why it wasn’t enough

The collections you could come up with on RAWG were very straightforward, “8 games with unique controls” or “10 games with wizards protagonists”. When it was something more complex, like games voiced by Mark Hamill, you couldn’t specify that he voiced Joker here and Detective Mosely there.

The thing is games are very different from songs (duh) in the sense of how we choose them, discover them, and, well, play them. We can listen to the whole playlist of 10 songs in under an hour, but 10 games will probably take more than a month just to try them, let alone beat them all. In other words, collection (like pretty much everything on RAWG) must help gamers choose the right game to play.

New collections only start like the old ones

Meet the revamped collections

The solution was to add a description to each game in the collection. From now on, the collections can be something more of an article, than just a playlist.

Don’t forget that you can add media embeds and images to descriptions, much like it works in reviews and discussions

We’ve also tweaked the process as how you create a collection. (Our users told us it feltlike beating Dark Souls.) Now you have zero forms to fill in to publish a collection, all actions are one-step and easy.

Another game in my collection doesn’t have a description

Of course, you can still make simple collections that don’t need much text, as you don’t have to add a description for each game. They will look neat both with or without descriptions.

Also every game in collections has a comment section, and you can reply to comments and like them.

As always you can contribute to other users’ collections and recommend to include a game, if you think that the list is incomplete.

This way you can ask other users for recommendations. I, being a hip-hop head for over a decade, for one don’t know many games with music to my taste. If you can share some gems with me, go to this new collection and suggest more games.
