Summer Wedding Style Rules: How To Avoid Upstaging The Bride But Still Look The Bomb.com

That whole rule of not being allowed to up-stage the bride sucks for Women who genuinely slay 24/7. But given the fact most of us will get married at some point in our lives, we sympathise, and therefore agree to the un-written rule of toning it down a bit in order for the bride to look the best on her big day.

Here are some rules to keep in mind when dressing for the summer wedding season, so you can feel fantastic without stealing the whole show.

It’s Not A Funeral

Whilst we’re all for the classy all black ensemble and whilst absolutely anybody can look fantastic in it, head-to-toe black for a wedding is just depressing. You run the risk of bringing the whole mood down and standing out for the wrong reasons. Off course, you can wear black but make sure you add some colour or statement accessories. Remember, a wedding is a celebration! (Unless you’re in love with the groom then you have permission to mourn)

Remember The Rule Of One

Hot weather and an outdoor wedding in the sun makes it tempting to bare all but to keep it classy you need to remember the rule of one. Choose your best asset and flaunt it, don’t try to show off everything at once. Go for a plunging neckline OR get your legs out. A body con fit or a cut out works well, but don’t mix them together.

Add Colour (and Pattern)

Opting for any of the summer’s most popular shades is a good idea, but only if you team it with a pattern. Unless you already know the colour scheme of the wedding wearing a solid coloured outfit in any of the most popular seasonal shades could result in you matching the bridesmaids and that’s not a great look. Instead, choose pieces that include those shades but as part of a pattern or as an accessory rather than the main colour of your outfit.

Invest In Accessories

The dress code for most weddings is a lot more relaxed than it used to be and you may be able to avoid a hat altogether. No one wants to blow the bank on a wedding which isn’t even their own so if you don’t fancy splashing out on a new outfit for every wedding you’re going to this summer, invest in accessories instead. Everything from your headgear — whether you opt for a hat, a jewelled headband or a floral piece — to your jewellery and bag can completely change the look of an outfit. Even if you only have one or two ‘summer wedding ready’ dresses, you can transform them with the right extras.

Focus On Your Beauty

If you’re choosing to abide by the rules and keep your outfit low-key, this doesn’t mean you be a plain jane. Make sure your hair, nails and make-up are all on point and flawless (or ‘on fleek’ as the kids say) . This way your beauty will stand out rather than what you’re wearing and no one can really blame you for that.

Ask The Bride

If you have a rocking outfit you’ve been saving for ages that you really want to wear, simply ask the Bride. In most cases, she’ll feel bad saying no you can’t wear it , but if she’s being a Bridezilla then just respect her wish.
