If you’ve got it, flaunt it, right? Wanting to look your finest at work is one thing but there’s a time and a place for showing off what your momma gave you. If you want to make a serious step up the career ladder, there is such thing as TOO sexy (yeah, it sucks.) Avoid these fashion fails at work if you want to stand out for the right reasons.
1. Control The Cleavage
There are plenty of places where getting your finest assets out is a good idea, but the workplace ain’t one of them. You could even be putting your career progress on the line if you’re seen in one too many low cup tops. It makes you look like you are kind of desperate and also makes other Women feel threatened by you. If you want to succeed at work, trying to draw all attention to your chest isn’t going to make you stand out for your business acumen. Keep your cleavage under wraps and that goes for side-boob and under-boob too.
2. Avoid Cake Face
Makeup at work is a must, you never want to look as exhausted as you actually feel as this will give the perception of ‘she’s not got her shit under control’ or make it look like you can’t cope with pressure. But keep it natural as you can. Heavy makeup that looks obvious adds to that desperate feeling. You want to look approachable and professional so maybe leave the lashes and the smokey eyes for your social life.
3. Too Tight Ain’t Right
Dressing for work should be fun and the clothes you wear should empower you and feel confident. Be careful though when it comes to dresses and skirts as some Women get it very wrong. Clothes that are too tight not only make you look inappropriate and unprofessional, but can give the impression you’re just a piece of meat when you really aren’t. On the other side, loose, baggy clothes make you look like you’re not interested in your appearance and that you have confidence issues. Sitting around like a scruff isn’t going to get you that promotion. Get real with your shape and what suits you. You can still wear all the gorgeous style you love and be you, but get the right size.
4. Make A Statement
When done right, dressing to stand out in work can be fun and have really positive effects on the relationships you build. Avoid the boring all black ensembles that all the other Women tend to wear and showcase your confidence by adding some colour , prints and patterns. Whether it’s a statement jacket, necklace, belt or shoe, adding something that is different will leave a lasting and positive impression on people. There is a fine line though and be careful you don’t cross it. Trying too hard and adding too much colour and variety to your look can give the perception you’re a bit cuckoo!
Working it in the workplace doesn’t mean you have to be a boring, basic bitch. You can still dress confidently and stylish whilst keeping it classy and climbing that career ladder.
