Hot Korean Political Issue: Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl’s legal fight against his suspension
Recently, the most hottest political issues in the South Korea is suspension of top prosecutor Yoon Seok-youl. The Korean Justice Ministry decide for a two months suspension of Yoon Seok-youl, Korean Prosecutor General, and President Moon Jae-in approved the Justice Ministry’s decision. Prosecutor general Yoon Seok-youl didn’t accept his suspension and he started legal fight against the Justice Ministry’s disciplinary measure.
The Korean Justice Ministry announced prosecutor general Yoon’s allegations like below.
- Violate political neutrality rule as a leader of prosecution.
- Secret inspection of judges.
- Obstruct injection related Channel A
- Obstruct investigate related Channel A

Prosecutor Yoon has flatly denied these allegations and started legal fight against Justice Ministry.
This case is very controversial in the South Korea and many people have big different opinions depends on their political tendency. The democratic party’s supporters are tend to think that Yon Seok-youl’s suspension is right decision and he have to quit prosecutor general. On the other hand, the conservative party’s supporters are tend to think that this decision is wrong. They think that the reason of the Justice Ministry’s disciplinary measure is to interrupt prosecution’s investigation related the Blue House.
At the day of Korea president Moon Jae-in approved for prosecutor general Yoon Seok-youl’s disciplinary, prosecutor general Yoon filed for an injunction in a Seoul court to halt the two months suspension of his duty.
The Seoul court will progress trial next Tuesday. If the court will accept Yoon’s injunction request, Yoon will restart his duty.
Ostensible, this issue is considering the fight between Moon administration and Prosecution. Moon administration think that Yoon didn’t follow or agree about Moon’s administration reform prosecution. Moreover, Moon administration think that Yoon is attempting to foil the reform prosecution plans. But Yoon said always he is working only follow the law. In fact, the prosecutor general Yoon was punished during the previous government due to the investigation related to the previous government. The previous government is the opposite party of the current government. So the current government, Moon administration’ was nominated Yoon Seok-youl as the prosecutor general. But now, Moon administration and prosecutor general Yoon are legal fightings now. Yoon said that “I’m not loyal to the person. I’m working based on the law.”
I’m not sure who is wins or who has more justification, but one of the clearest things is Moon administration faced a big issue while the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
