RBL1 is excited to spotlight Jack Gomer, an alumnus of the RBL1 training program. Jack is currently an investor with MultiCare Capital Partners, a newly formed strategic venture capital fund born out of MultiCare Health System. Jack brings 10 years of global healthcare experience, and in March 2021 pivoted his career to focus specifically on healthcare venture investing. He decided to join RBL1 shortly thereafter.

Jack had a background in healthcare but was faced with the challenge of helping build out a new corporate venture capital fund at MultiCare Health System. In joining Rebel One he was looking for tools and frameworks to evaluate companies, manage the venture selection process, and successfully carry the deal from origination to investment. After completing the program, he adapted what he had learned, elevating the fund’s process, and incorporating best practice.

“[We invested] $2M into an incredible digital behavioral health company that’s differentiating by focusing on the seriously mentally ill. We used the processes, structures and format I learned from Rebel One. The final memo was really positively received and called out as great work by our senior executives.

The training and what you’re teaching is the real deal — hope people gain from it as much as I have.”

He explains that his favorite part of the program remains the Partner Meetings, where companies are reviewed together with other students and alumni. Jack appreciates that a group of investors of various levels of expertise meets to discuss companies, learning from the way other investors think about and evaluate companies. Furthermore, he explains that these meetings foster an environment where people feel they can ask questions and put out ideas to the group. The partner meetings are a great learning opportunity to talk through real investments.

When expanding on his experience in the RBL1 program, Jack was most surprised by the makeup of other students. He notes how serious General Partner Sergio Marrero is when he says he’s committed to “changing the face of venture capital”.

Jack is extremely passionate about healthcare investing because he feels it represents the tip of the spear of much needed changes of how healthcare is delivered in the US and internationally. In the future he wants to stay working in healthcare VC to help improve access to quality healthcare. Lastly, he hopes to improve his current fund and continue building out an innovative model leveraging the unique resources and expertise of MultiCare to accelerate innovation in healthcare.
